The 1st issue of REDA newsletter is timed to
coincide with the seminar URBAN HOUSING IN ORISSA (Opportunities,
Challenges, Solutions) organized by The New Indian Express to
be held on 19.05.2003. It is the time where we look forward
to meeting different persons related to this trade from across
the state and country. Comparing the real estate scenario in
our state and other parts of the country, getting latest information
about new laws, new developments, new technologies, latest advances
and so on. It is also a time for serious debate on the future
of the real estate industry and how we can contribute in this
task of nation building.
The recognition accorded to the real estate
sector, especially housing over the last few years by the Govt.
of India has been encouraging. It is sign that the Government,
albeit belatedly, has realized the potential of real estate
as a vital growth engine. Even the McKinsey report presented
to the Prim Minister has emphasized that housing must be accorded
highest priority to accelerate G.D.P. growth. Unfortunately
in our State, Housing Industry is not given due importance.
All the rules, regulations and policies framed are in ad hoc
approach basis.
In our State, we have an ironic situation
in housing. The need of the hour is for the government to incentivise
construction and purchase of houses in a big way. This is only
the beginning and I am sure we shall witness a lot of debate
on this. On behalf of the editorial board, I wish a great success
of the seminar.
